The building was originally owned by Raytheon Company until the 1960s when it was purchased by King’s Departments stores which moved its headquarters there from Brockton, MA. When King’s filed for bankruptcy in 1982, ownership was taken over by a Purity Supreme Supermarket and its offices. In 1986 Staples opened its first corporate headquarters in the building, taking over roughly a third of the total office space available. In 1995 Purity Supreme was purchased by Stop & Shop and the retail space in the building was converted to a Stop & Shop soon after that time which it remains today. For a time, the office space portion of the building became the corporate headquarters for Cambridge Soundworks, including manufacturing space for the company.

A medical manufacturer was also a tenant for a time, resulting in state-of-the-art clean space areas for laboratories. That made a perfect place for the New England School of Acupuncture to move in, accommodating its requirements for space, safety equipment, and ventilation. The New England School of Acupuncture remains on the top floor of the building and they also have an outpatient clinic with both professional and student practitioners at street level. Other notable tenants include Harmon Law Offices, and the software development company Aptara.
